write up? Not necessary really. You just unplug them and remove one securing screw. Then replace with new COPs and plug in and tighten down. 25 minutes. I change mine back and forth frequently.

zkiller, why do you change them frequently?

Thanks for posting the part number! Let us know how it goes! Is this worthwhile on a NA engine?

THanks.

A couple of more questions.

1) To get the benefit out of adding these, do you also need a tune, or are the benefits attained without even a tune?
2) Anyone have a part # for UDPs that they've usedand where they've gotten them? I'm assuming the part # mentioned above was just for the coil packs?

Seems like these are a great add at only $250, especially since the work is easy to do yourself....

Why do you do this? Does it have to do with warranty, etc, or is there another reason why you'd want to change them back and forth?

Thanks!

I changed them frequently because have a set of MSD Blaster COPs and I have had two sets of GMS Hard Core Series COPs. I had a few of them fail on me. I can tell you from my experience this is a good mod though. You will get some horsepower (6-10) on a naturally aspirated car for sure. I have seen dynos for 20-32 on a high boost application.
The MSD COPs are 30,000 volts
The GMS COPs are 60,000 volts.
The stock are like 20,000
I have ran them naturally aspirated and with twin screw at 10 PSI & 11 PSI.
Higher voltage transformers produce ahotter spark. This will improve fuel burn in the combustion chamber, giving you better milage and more power through that more efficient fuel combustion. They also make the car run smoother.
If you are boosting they will eliminate spark blow out completely. Good mod from my experience.

Answers to your tune questions here...

The UDP's I used are Steeda and I got them from American Muscle. The above # is the Coils.

And Zkiller is dead nuts onwhen he says " Higher voltage transformers produce ahotter spark. This will improve fuel burn in the combustion chamber, giving you better milage and more power through that more efficient fuel combustion. They also make the car run smoother. " I've always put hotter ignitions in my cars and it has always had this result. IMO, there's few mods that add to driveability like a good ignition will.
