Default RE: turbo or super charger

I disagree that the turbo has a torque curve like a centri...maybe morelike a cross between a centri and a TS. I challenge those of you who say the TS makes loads more torque down low to check out and compare a few dyno graphs. Look at the curve, then take a look at the amount of HP/TQ at specific points on that curve. i.e., compare the turbo HP/TQ at 2500 RPM's to theTS or centri at 2500 RPM's. Do the same for 3000 RPM, 3500 RPM, etc. Make note of where the turbo begins to make more torque than the TS/centri at the same psi. I'm willing to bet the TS has an advantage up toaround3000 RPM, then the turbo blows it away.

As far as underhood heat is concerned. Throw a turbo blanket on it, and your engine compartment won't be any hotter than it was N/A. You can make a wide open pass, get out of the car, pop the hood, and put your hand flat on the blanket over the turbine housing. It does not get that hot. Also, an efficient intercooler and a properly sized turbo will keep your IAT's low. I think I was showing IAT's of around 85 degrees when I had mine dynoed. That was during the pulls, and we did several. The temp was ~ 75 degrees in the shop.

Again, I'm not knocking the superchargers, I just want people to have an educated opinion rather than saying "the TS is going to make tonsmore power down low" or "the turbo takes forever to make power" or "you're going to melt everything under your hood", etc.

Good for you!

Now for the challenge, you tell me your PSI and I'll setmy turbo to the same (or very close) PSI and we'll race. Loser buys the beer (after we're done driving).

Congrats!!!

I will take that race .

8 lbs of boost, but you will have to run on 235/55/17 all season perilis too .

Either way I get beer so its a win-win.

Turbo kits these days have instant power. Most putting out more torque than a Twinscrew.
Ya Instant at 4000RPM's while brake boosting.
Spoken by someone who really doesn't know.

I will never go to the track on anything less than a DR. I made that mistake when I was on the bottle. When I hit 2nd gear at about 200' mark, I went sideways (pass my wife in the stands), almost hit the wall on the other side but held it out and recovered. After that I vowed to never go without DRs again. With the power of the blower on your car you should get some LCAs and re-locate brackets and another set of wheels with DRs on them. It will help your frustration level when you go to the track and they are good safety additions for racing and maintaining traction.

Next Wednesday I'm going to Street Legal in Sacramento, CA. It should be fun and I will be looking for my 11.8 pass I've been searching for or waiting to get an oppurtunity to try for. The tough thing about street legal night is they don't spray the track, just clean it off and check it periodically for debris. I should be able to manage the 1.8 short times as I have before when I ran on Nitrous. If I can manage the 1.80 60' that will put me right at a 12.0 based on my last runs. I had 3 runs in a row last time all with 1.99-2.01 60', 12.45 @116.3xx. That was at http://www.reddingdragstrip.net/(you should click the link to see why no one was hooking up). So with the better 60' at a different (known to be better)track, I expect a higher trap by 1-3 mph and ~.5 off my best ET.

Basically what I'm saying is I have no more excuses that are within my control.

My clutch is fixed (replaced),
My locker is in and I have the proper gearing now (traction is awesome and the car pulls like thedevil).

It's time for me to perform I guess.
