Default Getting gears, question about bearing cap studs

Hey all,

I've got my Ford 4.10:1 ring and pinion gear set ordered, as well as a cast aluminum differential girdle. When I did this exact same mod on my Marauder years ago I also had the installer put in a bearing cap stud kit (Ford part # M-4034-A), which was recommended. It looks like Ford has discontinued this stud kit, though. I can't find it at Jeg's, Sean Hyland Motorsports, or my local Ford dealer parts counter. Further, nobody seems to be able to tell me if Ford will be replacing this kit with another one or not.

I know the stud kit is not necessary, but as long as I'm going to the trouble and expense I'd like to set it up the same as I did on my big car. Anybody got any word on why this part has been dropped and if there will be a replacement?

No, not absolutely necessary at all. The studs are just stronger than the stock bolts so will help hold everything together under hard launches. I think the idea here is that with the studs and the differential girdle you keep everything more rigid and allow for less flex during hard launches. In theory this should lengthen gear life. I went with the bearing cap studs and girdle when I put the 4.10:1 ring an pinion in my Marauder because I plan to supercharge that car and wanted the extra peace of mind. Seeing as how I plan to leave my GT n/a, however, I've decided I'm content to just go with the girdle and the regular bearing cap bolts.

Getting my GT's 4.10:1 gears installed Thursday. I can't wait! [8D]

ARP makes the bearing cap studs.....even the ones that Ford carried....if you looked at the end of the studs, you'd see the letters A R P on them.

Honestly, has anyone on here ever had a catasrophic rear end failure? Has anyone you even know ever broken a bearing cap bolt? They probably stopped carrying them because there's no need for them.... I'm all for overkill but thats one of the last studs I'd think about spending extra time or effort finding... Save your 25-30 bucks for a couple extra runs at the drag strip... It'll do you way more good there....
