Tranny grating sound - new brgs needed
There's been a few posts about a noise from the manual transmission, only happens when transmission is cold and in cold weather. Well, I got fed up of listening to it (sounds like an ice-grater on refrigerator - but quieter obviously) and took it to the dealer. My tranny only has 10K miles on it, turns out it's a bad needle roller bearing, to repair they have had to install a bearing service kit, would have been ~$1000 for parts and labour. Luckily it's under warranty, but for those of who have also heard this...get it seen to quickly, it seems quite serious.

Well,, I got the new bearings fitted and it didn't fix the problem, in the end the dealer installed a brand new transmission under warranty. Took longer than I wanted but everything worked out in the end. Never did find out what the problem was, probably adjacent gears rubbing or something catching on the casing - there isn't much clearance between the internal components,
