How much should it cost?

RE: How much should it cost?
I just got my 4.10s installed the other day. I went to JDM which is known for being good but not being cheap whatsoever. They charged me 6 hrs labor, which is pretty ridiculous compared to what everyone else in here is saying. I paid 500 just for labor/fluids. But this is the only job i will ever get done from them. I only paid the extra money becuase i needed it done right the first time and read about how important it is to go to a reputable installer.
Oh yea and highway driving is fine...I averaged 26mpg on the 32 mile stretch on the highway coming back. I love the 4.10's. Def get them!!

I see everyone running the 4.10's, does no one see any problems with highway driving?

My Subaru is an automatic and I am at 2,700 rpm's going 70. It is all relative I guess.

RE: How much should it cost?
Unfortunatly I do at least 150mile min highway driving a week. Also I cruise at 75 and pass people at 80-85 so my rpm's would be even higher. I think it would be too high a gear for the type of driving I do correct? 3.73's might be good but would it even be worth it? How much extra kick do the 4.10's give and would the 3.73s be even close or what?
Thanks, Scott

RE: How much should it cost?
Scott, what gears are in your car now? If your '06 came with 3.55's, the 3.73 is not a big step. The happy medium of 3.90 is an option, but you would be looking at Motive gears and not Ford Racing. Rumor has it, the Motive gears are lower in quality and tend to whine.
My vert is my second car, so the 4.10's were all about the torque (fun) factor.

Margarita Girl yes it does have the stock 3.55's. Thats what I was thinking, 3.73's really wouldnt be a big step. I know ford racing is good but you think motive gear is low quality? Thats the gears that brenspeed has and I've always thought they pretty much stock the good stuff, what do you think?

RE: How much should it cost?
The safe bet is the FRPP 3.73's. The other thing to consider, is that I have 17" stock tires on stock rims. If your tire diameter is greater, the effect of the shorter gear will be less.
My smaller tire with 4.10's cause higher rpms than if I had bigger tires going at the same speed. So, when I get bigger tires to fill my wheel well, I will decrease the rpm's of the engine at the same speed. Did I make sense.[8D]
Here's some opinions on Motive gears:

RE: How much should it cost?
Wow thanks for the heads up!!! I didnt know about the motives or that some of the frpp were actually motive. Whine is defintily not for me. My friends gears in his camaro whine and its obnoxious, its louder than the exhaust. I have the 17s
too so im going to be in the same boat. I think 4.10s are too high so Ill just have to decide if 3.73s are worth it for me. Thanks for your help!
