Getting gears- Do I need to upgrade posi ?
I'm getting FRPP 3.73 gears installed in couple weeks. The guy at the shop is tellin me I got to upgrade to an heavy-duty aftermarket posi differential, or else the factory posi will start slipping pretty soon and start to fail?? I have not heard this before and an HD posi is > $400.00 !! I think he just wants to get some more coin out of me.
Do I need this? This is a GT with 5-spd, daily driver, never sees the track...
let me know what you guys with gears think

If you're not going to take it to the drag strip, then you're fine on the stock LSD. The problems with the stock LSD is when you're pushing it at the track...it'll tend to shift torque to 1 wheel.

RE: Getting gears- Do I need to upgrade posi ?
The guy who did my gear change said the rear end will be fine, I was asking about a detroit locker LS and he said if you did anything the you might want to go to a better axle like moser I did at the time of gear change and the axle came with studs ready for the TC ring to slip on. and slid in place , used same c clip. it was a 300.00 upgrade. he said if you run slicks at the track with low numbers the factory axle has been known to break. I wanted to start out right. also put a rear end girdle. If it helps I paid 250 for gear change and an extra 50 for axle swap. I thought it was a real good deal do to his experience and the amount of tools/presses used.
good luck I have a 373 in an auto and it feels good but Not as noticable as a 410 would have been. I just made a 310 mile trip thru back roads to carolina and I averaged 22.9 even with the 373 just installed. Remember to be easy with your gears for the first couple hundred miles. goood lucccckkkkk

I burned up the stock LS after only a couple trips to the track. The only advantage to having the LS changed now is that it is already apart and won't cost any additional labor. If you have to do it later it will be partsplus another $250 for labor. If you are not going to be racing it, you should be fine.

Slickslvr, for daily driving (and street tires) your stock differential will be absolutely fine.
Sidmanic, did you have your Kenne Bell going when you burned yours up? Were you running slicks at the time? I was asking because I've been impressed with how tough the stock drive train has been.
