Default Posi Rear

Anybody running a posi rear? What are the effects on the handling of the car? Still streetable? I'm prepared for some different tire wear and probably some more effort in low-speed tight turns (like parking lots) Is it possible to have the best of both worlds like a limited slip with a manual locker for use on demand? Any other words of wisdom or personal experience is appreciated.

Thanks In AdvanceGuys, Justin

If your going this route I would look at swapping the axles themselves out. A few people have snapped the axles while running d/r's or slicks.
the ford rear end isn't to bad there are some people on here with 55 rwhp still using the ford setup. gears were change of coarse.
A good suspension setup would help also.
eaton and detroit locker make good units also. Good luck with your quest and let us know the outcome

The car has a posi-traction limited slip 8.8" differential right from Ford.
I have not seen anyone break a 31-spline axle on these cars with slicks.
I dont know if the people you know with "55 RWHP" are breaking axles but I have around 500 RWHP and mine seems to be holding up to dragstrip launches.

I haven't seem anyone break axles either. I have seen the stock diff from Ford go out or loos it's ability to work properly after some abuse at the strip.

I have a detroit locker:

Pros

Awesome traction
durable
It's actually a "soft locker" and it lets your outside wheel go faster than the inside wheel so the tire wear issues of the past have been left there.

Cons

They are damn noisy!!!
Parking lots and backing up in a turn causes some very strange noises. Very annoying and loud. Sometimes it would cause the car to jerk back and forth a little.
More expensive than a quailty LSD.

If I were to do it again,I would have got the top of the line LSD.
