Default x pipe install

ok, my friend asked me to put on an x pipe that he just ordered on his 08 gt, ive never put one on the 05-08's, does he need a tune? i clearly know it will throw a code for the O2's but besides that will it run too lean to a point where it becomes a concern for it being a DD, im not too woried about performance at this point just safe drive-ability, oh and any tips on the install? ive got a full socket set and ramps the gt isn't lowered like cars ive done in the past and as far as ive heard its a pretty easy quick install, he's already got a catback on there if that helps with the question about needing a tune/ running lean and NO mods other than the catback

thanks,
bryan

If you're getting rid of the cats, then he'll need a tune to turn off the rear o2 sensors. If you're keeping the cats, then you don't need anything.

You'll need some long extensions (12+ inches) and a universal joint to get to the upper manifold bolt on the passenger side. I installed mine without much trouble with just a set of ramps too. It was a little difficult for me to handle removing the stock pipe and lifting the new pipe in place just because it was alot heavier than I expected.

Tell him that chambered mufflers sound like poop with O/R X-pipes.

Tonight I heard an 06 stang that had O/R X and JBAs. It sounded much better than I thought it would, even at WOT. Not much raspiness.

The factory converters actually flow very well. You're not going to gain a significant amount of power by removing them. I'd say it's a gain of between 5-10hp from removing the cars and switching to an X-pipe.
