Short throw shifters with 40+% reduction?
Im about ready to get one of these in the car. I had a 50% reduction shifter in my old SRT4, and I absolutely loved it.
The stock throw in the SRT4 felt longer than the stock throw in the mustang, so I figure a 40% or more reduction shifter will make me happy in the stang.
I'd like to get a quality shifter, but I know very little about the various manufacturers peices. I've heard MGW's are the way to go (atleast I think thats the name of it) but they cost about 295. I've seen short throws ranging from 180ish up to 300.
Is there any real difference between the models? I know Hurst makes a 185 dollar model, and then a billet 250 dollar model. I have no idea if there is any real difference in shift feel between those different price points.
What shifter with a 40% minimum reduction would you recommend, and should I just stop bitching about the extra 100 and get the higher end models?
Thanks,
Scott

My hurst is a nice looking shifter and is fun, but not ideal for racing or speed shifting.
MGW seems to be the favorite there.
I installed my hurst myself and am less than mechanically inclined. It takes some ramps and would go faster with one person in the car and one person under it, or else you'll be going back and forth a few times. The biggest thing is not to overtighten the shifter when attaching it to the body studs (easy to snap em off).

MGW FTMFW! I've had mine (New Edge 3650 w/ orange handle) for about 2 years, and I can't even imagine the stocker anymore... shifts are short and crisp, and the only times I miss a shift is when I over-control.

I purchased my MGW, and I haven't had the chance to install it yet. The boot on the bottom of it was split when it came in, and my new boot is supposed to be here today for me to fix it. We called Tremec, and the MGW is what they recommended, must be something good if the manufacter recommends it. I know that the MGW is adjustable on reduction %, going up to 50%.
