What are the advantages and disadvantages to installing 4.10 gears?

If you are worried about mileage you shouldn't be driving a mustang. Get the gears and don't look back. 80-85 Mph at 3K is fine. The only thing they are going to do is put a smile on your face.
A full day's labor is a complete rip off by the way. I paid about 600 for mine: gears, rip off royal purple gear oil, bearing set and labor. I though I overpaid a little but they did a great job installing.

I am not "worried about" GAS mileage, but I am concerned about reliability and durability of the rear end and the whole drive train.
I am a prospective buyer of an 05 manual 4.6 GT with 45K mi - this car, especially with 4.10 added soon after purchase, WILL have decent longevity in the drive train, yes?
The 4.10 means this, if I drive say an additional 80,000 miles on it, that's 125K on the engine. The 4.10 means the engine has maybe 15% - 20% more rpm's on it than stock rear.
I assume this engine is good for it... other things will need replacement BEFORE the engine or the rear end, right??
Thanks

Drop in a 3.31? AT come w 3.31 , right? Manual, with 3.55 or so.
I don't even own a Mustang.. so consider my words from that perspective !! I just like gears- lower gears for more instant power- quickness like Bruce Lee. In traffic, quickness is my fave mod- not top speed.
I prefer quickness to 1/4 mile though. I prefer a 6 speed to a 4 speed. You can almost instantly be right in the ideal power band/ optimum torque, via the gearing.
No waiting. Waiting, is not racing!
