what kind of fuel you use?
i was using unleaded the 83 octane and my friends started saying i need to put 93 in there. but it says don't use higher octane in the user manual. So guys what do you put in your Mustang. i got a 2006 Mustang GT

83? I hope you mean 87.
Ford says to use 87. If you're getting pinging on 87 then you can go up. Otherwise the more expensive gas is a waste of money unless you have a tune for higher octane.

You must mean 87 octane. That's what the stock tune requires. Using a higher octane fuel has no benefit on our engines, unless you're tuned for it. You'll simply be wasting your $$. Your friends are wrong. That may have had some benefit in the 60's and 70's. But not these days.
Do some research on CAI (Cold Air Intake) and tune combos (go to www.brenspeed.com). These provide the best bang-for-the-buck besides a supercharger for power addition, providing roughly 15-30 RWHP. With the 3 tunes provided, you can run higher octane fuel. Even the custom 87 octane tune will give you wood compared to the stock 87 tune.

Running 93 octane in a stock GT won't hurt anything, it also won't help either. The increased octane won't make a difference if the motor isn't tuned to take advantage of it.
If you had a Bullitt Mustang, the PCM can detect what octane fuel you're running and advance the timing accordingly for a little extra power. I believe 2010 Mustang will do this also.

93 fuel for a 93-tuned engine.
But I also look for:
1) low-ethanol gas. If the pump has a sticker that says something like "this fuel is 10% ethanol", I look for something else.
2) Chevron. Just in case there's something to that techron stuff.
