Comp Thumpr - Cam Phasers?
#11
It looks like Ford Racing updated their page about the hot rods a little. They now have the specs.
Hammeron, didn't you have a document comparing the specs of the Hot Rods and Thumprs?
Here's what Ford Racing says about them:
- Duration at .050", intake 221 degrees, exhaust 240 degrees, lobe separation 110 degrees
I knew the previous report that the LSA is 133 was wrong. That seemed way too much and a 110 makes a lot more sense.

Oh ok you had the XFI NSR on there.
Here's the specs to the ***** Thumpr (the ones everyone is getting) if you'd like to add those: http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1434&sb=2

Just to stir the soup a bit more, I called a mustang shop, along with 2 other prestigious shops, and they all said the limiters with the hot rods would do more harm than good and that safety of the valves wasn't going to be a concern.

Ford Racing has mentioned that the use of phasers and/or springs can cause issues. I read on another board someone quoted Ford Racing saying that if stiffer than stock springs are used with the FRPP cams, then the cam phaser will start ticking and eventually fail.
Also, from MyLocalDJ who cruises this board as well as others said this:
"Cam Phasers and VCT Lockouts should NOT be used with the FRPP Hot Rod Cams P/N M-6550-3V. I was told this by the tech from Ford Racing on a couple of occassions and also know an individual currently having problems because he had cam phasers installed on recommendation by someone when they did this mod. This guy also is running a Whipple SC. These particular cams are designed to run as a direct bolt on and do not require springs, phasers, or lockouts. Per FRPP, they can also be run without a tune but will not have any performance gains until properly tuned."

Its been great info on here. Thank you everyone.
It just gets confusion to a point. 5 different shops, Brenspeed, Bama, MRT, Alerternative, and Sutton, pretty much all gave different answers about both brands.
I've pulled the trigger last Friday. I'm getting the Thumprs + Limiters installed this Friday at Brenspeed. They pretty much agreed mostly what the other shops were telling me, plus they added their .02. For me, they were the most informative, plus I always wanted to check out their shop.
From what I can tell, the Thumprs seem to have a bit more aggressive idle than the Hot Rod. That may just be my perception through youtoob though.
In either case, for nearly the same price, both are exceptionally good values. I'll be interested to hear what its like with my LT's and prochamber.
