Default Why a CV joint instead of U-joint?

Just curious - why did Ford use a cv joint on the diff end of the driveshaft instead of a u-joint? Is there some advantage to a cv joint?

I did a google search and it seems that a CV joint has less vibration so it's quieter and can handle more of a load when at a severe angle. I'd figure the main reason they used a CV joint is noise reduction.

I'm actually thinking about going back to the stock driveshaft when I upgrade my clutch (soon). I should have bought a 3.5" shaft instead of the 4".
It rubs on something on the body when the suspension compresses fully - probably a very dangerous thing...
The 1 piece is loud too.
It's like a big aluminum resonator tube that amplifies all the driveline noises. Even the exhaust sounds different.
I also get some vibrations at high speed (over 85 or 90) that shakes the mirror and the shifter. A pinion angle adjustment fixed some of that but I still don't like it.

The only thing I do like about the 1 piece is that it's 'tighter' than the stocker.
Shifting feels tighter as there isn't as much play in the driveline. I can live with it though...

I haven't has any of those problems with my 4"aluminum driveshaft. The so called one piece driveshafts are really two piece driveshafts. The OEM is three-piece driveshaft and as you know it weighs a ton.

A 1 piece does change the sound of the exhaust. Even my 3.5 inch steel shaft made the exhaust sound different. I noticed it on the very first start up.

A better question is why haven't any of the aftermarket drive shaft makers used a CV joint?

I'm guessing the u-joint would be cheaper to produce, but that's just a guess. And if that's true, then there had to be some other reason Ford would use a cv joint. I guess the vibration issue makes sense, but there's no severe angles on this car, so I'm not sure it makes much difference.
