Oil Debate ?
Over on Bob's oil forum there is another big debate about using 5-30 oil in vehicles with vvt. There's a guy on there saying it will shorten the life of the vvt and will gunk it up if 5-20 isn't used. I don't believe it myself, but would like to know what oil was used for the people on here with high miles. It would be fun to post on there that numerous people with high miles with the vvt using 5-30 have not had a problem using 5-30.

Honestly? The best way to tell for certain isn't an oil analysis. It's an engine teardown after x amount of miles.
You want to answer this question scientifically? You take 50 identical mustangs. Drive them both hard for x amount of miles under similar conditions. 25 have 5W-30 and 25 have 5W-20. Rip the engines apart.
Then you'll know. But it's not gonna happen. So until then we run around in circles with this whole thing. People have gone 100K plus on the factory MC 5W-20 oil. Ditto on 5W-30. Do we really need to know that much more about this? The extra viscosity of a 5W-30 might help you out a bit but only under certain conditions.

Nevermind, I found the post. Some stupid kid ran 20w50 in his zx2, which calls for 5w30. I bet he had problems with his vct because it took forever for that oil to get to the top of the engine!
I've never heard of a 3v having problems running 5w30.
