Lifetime of 3V 4.6L engines?
Hey guys, (and ladies)....Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a general idea of how long the 3V 4.6L engines from the 2005-current models can run before any type of major problems I'm not saying i think my car has a ton of miles, but I'm just wondering if there are any Ford technicians/mechanics here or anyone else who have a general idea of how long these engines can run....i.e. 100K+, 150K+, etc....When ever it comes time for me to replace my engine years down the road, I'm considering building a high output 429 engine and swapping it into my S197. But that's going to be a very long time from now lol. I really appreciate any response and input. Thanks a lot.

Probably not as long as any of my 6 Toyotas, 4 of which which ran like a fine swiss watch well beyond 200,000 miles (the other 2 I still have are each beyond 150,000 miles). My guess is the engine in our GT's will last longer than the rest of the car (engine accesories, body hardware, etc). In other words, like most Fords and other domestics, it'll nickel and dime you in general once you get up into the low to mid 100,000's.

Course, with the majority of our patrons modifying the holy hell out of their cars, we might not be the best gauge LOL!
My buddy up here has a totally stock '06 with just over 100K on the OD and it runs strong as ever on nothing but proscribed maintenance.

I'd have to guess at least 150K with good maintenance and not thrashing on it TOO much. Adding a supercharger would probably cut some lifetime off that figure.
Whoever mentioned nickel and dime is right. Pumps, hoses, etc. all start to need replacing after about 100K plus. It's worse if you drive the car in frigid weather. Wears things out even moreso.

I'm sorry, not to sound like a dick or something, but thats kinda like asking your parents how long they think YOU are going to live. Too many variables to even come close to coming up with some sort of reliable expectation.
