ANOTHER 3.73s or 4.10s thread
I used the search function last night and went thru nearly every post on this topic I could find and I am STILL on the fence.....So with that being said, I am listing what I have as far as equipment on the car to end this decision HOPEFULLY once and for all. I do plan on "someday" either putting on a Whipple or Edelbrock Supercharger on.
The Equipment:
2006 Auto Mustang GT
C&L CAI
Bamachips 93 Race and Torque tune
Tokico D-Specs
AR Razors 18x9s
245/45/zr18 Nexen n7000 tires (26.7")
BMR relo brackets
BMR Adj. Panhard and Brace
BMR UCA spherical/poly
BMR LCA sperical/poly
BoomTubes
Kooks LTS w/catted H being shipped and will arrive end of next week.
The problem:
I have seen the charts dealing with tire size and gear size and suck at deciphering it.
I drive 50 miles round trip to work 90% highway, the top MPH in the DFW Metroplex is 60 where I live, I gotta get out of town to do 70 plus. I do want to once in awhile run the car at the track, not all the time but I will do it, and remember, someday it will be Supercharged.
I hope I can finally end this on going battle I have in my head of what gears to go with.

If you PM me your email address, I can email you a spreadsheet another forum member created. You enter your transmission (m for manual and a for automatic) and it automatically fills out the gear ratios. Then you entire your tire dimensions and the final drive ratio you want (3.73 or 4.10). Then it plots out your engine speed versus vehicle speed for each gear. You can then take whatever speed you normally cruise at and look at the corresponding engine rpm using 3.73s and 4.10s. Then go out on the highway and spend 20-30 minutes cruising at that rpm. You might have to use 4th gear or even 3rd depending on whether you want to speed or not. Also, the cruising noise will most likely be louder once you get the long tubes, so keep that in mind. I went with 3.73s and sometimes around town i wish i had 4.10s. Then I take a long trip and I am very glad I have 3.73s.

3.73s , best all around bang for the buck, won't kill your MPG..... we have similar mods and I am very happy with the 3.73s. I race quite a bit and only drive 10 miles to work no highway...so 4.10s could have been a viable option for me, but if I had a long commute on highway no way would I get 4.10s....
Have Doug adjust your tune to the new gear ratio, he will change the stock torque converter schedule and you will feel the difference !!!!

I was debating the same thing for a long time.. just got 4.10s in on last Tuesday- and WOW!
I am REALLY glad I got the 4.10s over the 3.73s, but then again I am pretty extreme in wanting as much acceleration possible even with the expense of losing some MPGs.
With just bolt ons, the 4.10s are fine IMO.. when I go FI, I'll most likely go 3.73s because they are a little more forgiving..
