Default torque converter now?

would a high stall torque converter improve my launch?

haven't be able to launch it too much but I have got it down somewhat.

If you have a good enough drag radial that will hold higher rpm launches it would. I run m/h dr's and they hook REALLY good even when I launch off the nitrous. I'm still on the stock converter and only launch at 2k rpms right now but will def get a TC in the near future.

what do you think about just getting fatter tires for the 18s rather then getting 17s or drag radials? If I get fatter tires for the stock rims, I would be able to also possibly get the converter.

how long do good DRs last? I race quite a bit during summertime.

Also it's not a good idea to be running DRs on the rear and street tires in the front, correct?

I was thinking of getting 285/40/r18s not sure if they would fit nor would it be safe to run.

Get some 15" and some slicks.

Yes! NOW! Stall converters take off an average of 1/2 a second in the quarter mile.

A good stall converter like the ones Precision Industries sells will completly change your car into a whole new animal. The 60ft times along with 1/4 times will drop drastically. More so than any other bolt on other than FI OR NOS. Forget about street tires (on the track) no matter how big with that converter, they will just go up in smoke. You can always run drag radials with normal radial street tires as they are both of street legal radial construction. The mix thats not recommended is radial street tires with bias ply(wrinkle wall drag slicks) tires. At the top end your rear end can get all loose while your front end handles fine.(not a good or safe combination at all)

I am pretty sure I am gonna get a high stall converter.

Thought about getting shorty headers, and though they might produce more hp throughout the power band, I just don't believe they will be as dramatic at the launch as a high stall TC.

Unfortunantly, I will only be running street tires all summer...

Not at all. It doesnt stall unless you brake-torque or flash the converter. So at partial throttle it engages fine it just slips a little more than the OEM converter.
Any automatic Mustang should get a converter upgrade for drag racing.

Correct me if I wrong but doesn't it also engage alot stronger from a low roll or roll racing?
