Live with it. It's not gonna hurt anything.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

back when I was a teenager, I used to do alot of burnouts with various manuel trans small pickups that belonged to my dad, excessive tire smoking one wheel peel events caused the spider gears to go out, I trashed at least 5 different rear ends. in all cases clunking occured when driving around corners and when you let off the gas pedal to decel. on one truck at times the rear would bind at slop speeds and lock up momentarily. basically it was a catastrophic failure in the diff, with pieces of metal and shavings floating around. also trashed at least 2 more on work trucks getting stuck in the snow, however the cause was still the same, bottom line if you do a burnout stop if both tires are not spinning or at least don't hold it for very long

My rear end makes all kinds of noise if I'm turning and shifting to 2nd at the same time. At least it sounds like it's coming from the rear.

A 1 piece drive shaft will help with clunking. There is some slop in the axles/differential like someone said. Just jack up the rear under the axle and turn the tires. You'll notice quite a bit of play before the shaft actually starts turning (trans in nuetral).

I think the brake rotors might also contribute or maybe it was the calipers..

06 Auto, I got it. FFRP or Eibach Pro (same part) progressive springs on rear. Hitting the bump stops? After lowering is there enough travel?

Pinion slap! (Back-Lash)

The aluminum driveshaft will increase it. Most of those who have put aftermarket suspension parts on will notice a lot more noise from the rear. The stock parts are designed to isolate the noises, the aftermarket ones are designed to handle increased performance. The trade off is noise from the axle assembly is transmitted the the chassis.

Exclamation UPDATE!

Well, thanks everyone! I believe that Genius was right, its the lashing in the rearend. After reading some posts elsewhere, this problem is common in any vehicles that use this same rearend, (06-09 Stangs, 05-09 Explorers and Ranger Pickups (non 4X4)).

The noise is caused by the axles chattering at the point where they meet the pinion gears. The axles are held in place by a C-Clip (ala late 90's - 00s GM style setup) not like 8"-9" Ford rearends we all love.

So, I've found this kit on fordracing.com: 8.8" AXLE INSTALLATION KIT M-4050-B. Im gonna order it and have it installed to see if it takes up some of the slack. I read on another site that the factory used the wrong thickness clips, which equates to the chatter/jarring/clunking sound we've been made to live with.

And while Im at it, Im gonna have them install 8.8" AXLE BEARING AND SEAL KIT M-1225-B1. For good measure!

Default My 06 mustang was bought brand new clunking noise rear end all stock. This has been g

06 Ford mustang V6 4.0 all stock. I have had this clunking noise for several years now and now it's at a point to where it sounds like it's just going to completely Fall apart. This is not normal in any sense of the word. Have taken it in had it looked at by several mechanics to only be told there's nothing wrong. There's definitely something wrong. Help
