Email Tunes...I Don't Get It
If these email tunes are so basic (canned), why can't they just email them to you within a day or so? The only real variable is the processor code and I would think this doesn't require hours on the computer. They want you to pay an "expediting fee" to get it to you in a reasonable time.
Am I wrong, or is this no more than sending a file for my processor code? I'm pretty sure they have a 93 tune already for a Steeda CAI because the rest of the mods really don't affect it. I was quoted a 7 business day lead time? It's not like I have some crazy set up with FI, cams, etc. Either they're trying to play up the complexity of this or they're so slammed that I need to be in their business. This is similar to when I installed stereos professionally and a super easy car would come in for a head unit and we'd tell them an hour when actually we could have it in there before the paper work was filled out - we were embarassed to let them know they spent $50 for 10 minutes (this was the minimum we could charge per our company). Anyway, sorry for the rant. Can someone shed some light on this? |
What company are you dealing with?
|
i have a feeling hes talking about brenspeed.well if you have a company that is slam with walk in customers and in top of that you have about 100 emails a day for tunes and things that need to be added to tunes allready purchase plus other problems that come with all that i think 5 to 7 days is not that bad.i know what you mean since i just went through it.
it is a pain in the ass having to wait for a tune but the time is well worth it if your dealing with brenspeed. |

Let's put it this way - if someone went to buy a 50" lcd (been saving and saving) for their house one weekend and the store said "7 business day lead time", would you buy it there? No way. One might say "tuning expertise" is different but a wise business owner won't fall into that trap and think there aren't other options for the customer...i.e. B@M@ I'm fine with the wait, I just don't get it. |
i know exactly what you mean.i just got mines yesterday after 8 days of waiting and i was wondering the same as you while waiting but i wouldnt want a new person doing my tune.

it took VMP 10 days to get me my 93 tune....I am actually looking into Brenspeed as well.

That's what's so great about getting a dyno tune. It's done right there in front of you!

i guess the best way to come to a conclusion to this is to head over to one of the tuners and spent a day at the shop to see what actually goes on there.lol.either they are going crazy with work or they are eating crap waiting to see who is gonna tune the next car.

Brenspeed is horrible they should just never exist if they are going to take 8 days to deliver a tune.
Also they should charge 5% less for their tune every month starting this month (ie 5% off to the point the price almost reaches zero, but doesn't quite get there!!). As you can see the price of a tune in just 12 months would be much more "affordable" see: http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/i...aph-image2.jpg Also it takes way too long to donlozad the damn tune, brenspeed? Fix this, hire more code writers (that's right i think you need code writers to make the tunes download faster). Listen Brenspeed, or else you'll go out of business today or tommorow probably! |
LOL! :D

The VMP 93 is a snappy tune...I have it now but want to contrast it to the Brenspeed 93...so it appears 8-10 days is industry standard wait time...still don't understand
Back to the topic... most of these shops are one man shop or have just 2-3 employee. They do installs, host dyno days, some of them have mobile dynos and go out of town for a few days, and sometimes have to take some time off. All of that ends-up generating some backlog. If you're in a hurry pay a bit more and you'll have your tune the next day. |

VMP has stronger bottom-end, Brenspeed has stronger top-end. Brenspeed has very touchy accelerator feel and not much happens below ~3k. VMP has a smoother power delivery across the rpm range. Also I gained about 2 mpg with the VMP tune. Both are great tunes but with different characteristics and feels.

sycd - Is your VMP tune not "throttle touchy"? When I had my gears installed hear locally in Atlanta, the owner could barely launch my car - he was laughing like crazy and kept saying what is going on with this car? I'm used to it and do like to hyper-sensitive response of the VMP tune...my biggest gripe is both the Steeda (mild tune) and VMP detonate and I have to manually retard the timing.

Bamachips! Got most of mine in a day or two. A couple I even got same day by calling and telling Doug I was headed to the track that night - no problem (of course he already had me on file for previous tunes, so that might make it a little easier).
