cheep mods for HP?
#3
I am not an expert on mods for the S197's by any means...However, I can give you one piece of advice, define your definition of cheap. I know it is kind of a personal thing, but it helps people if you can give a budget or at least a range you are looking to stay in. Also like 2007VistaBlueGT mentioned watching for used parts can save you some cash...I combed ebay for quite a while and finally found a uesed SLP Loudmout axle back and saved a little more then 100 bucks on it (its not exactly a performance mod but it makes my stang sound sweet).

1.You need a tune from Bama, Brenspeed or VPM. So, you'll need to buy a handheld tuner. $400.00 w/3 tunes.
2. UDP's...free-up 8-10hp (reported) $200
3. real cheap to free up some HP is the short-belt (bypass power steering). drag strip only though. 1 to 2 tenths in the 1320
4. N20 = serious bang for the buck - $500+
"free-up HP" will not add to the HP total at the crank, but will add to the HP total to the RW
2. UDP's...free-up 8-10hp (reported) $200

I think the word you are looking for is cheap not cheep.
The ad news is that there is not a lot of cheap mods that work well on the S197's. You will end up throwing a grand in little nickle and dime parts over time and wind up with 20 more ponies in the end. That is less than a 10% increase and most people would never notice it.
If you already have a CAI then you should have a tuning device as well so the next best big bump for the buck would be either nitrous or cams with N2O being the big winner for little dough!

What they all said above...
A standalone CAI barely adds more than 6-8 RWHP IF you're lucky on these cars. It's the tune that provides the kick. The CAI & tune combo is typically the first, best bang-for-the-buck at roughly 15-25 + RWHP for about $650. Since you have the CAI, you can get the tuner and some custom tunes for about $350. After that, other than going FI, nitrous would be the only other large gainer. Beyond those, it's nickle and dime stuff: UDP's, cams, delete plates, headers, aluminum DS...
DO NOT let anyone talk you into an aftermarket throttle body (TB). The stock TB flows just fine as long as you stay NA.
