Ford literature can be confusing. The 2007 sales brochure says that limited-slip differential is optional on GT with automatic transmission. The window sticker does not say anything about a limited-slip differential. My door jamb code is CG. Go figure.

I am getting an automatic GT so will be getting the 3.3 ratio. I want to upgrade to 3.73. Does anyone know if the dealer can easily program the ECM for 3.73? I am thinking of possibly just changing the whole rear axle instead of just the gears. They are available on ebay as take-offs.

I don't know about the pre-'08's, but ALL '08 and newer GT's have an LSD. In '08, the only way to get an open diff was in the V6 with the 3.31's. My '08 GT has the 3.31's but does have an LSD. If the sales guy is telling you that upgrading to 3.55's or 3.73's removes the LSD, he's lying to you.

BG — 3.31 — non-limited slip, base vehicle with manual or automatic transmission

CD — 3.55 — limited slip, GT with manual transmission

CG — 3.31 — limited slip, GT with automatic transmission
Hmmm, my door code is CG and I have a manual transmission...

I sure wish I had the 3.55's instead!!

The codes have nothing to do with the transmission. They denote gear ratio only. My '08 GT/CS has 3.31's, says "CG" and has a manual.

Well, my 2007 shop manual says CG--3.31--limited slip, GT with automatic transmission. But then again, it does not show anything at all for a 3.31 GT with manual transmission.

When I bought my '08 in May, the dealer still had the '08 brochure. It specifically indicated that the LSD comes on all GT's, regardless of the ratio. It also indicated that the 3.31's were standard and that the 3.55's were optional (3.73's not available as a factory option) regardless of tranny choice. We checked because my car had EVERY option except the 3.55's and Nav, which we though was odd. I wanted to make sure I was getting the LSD.

Agreed. No need to worry or debate. Every S197 GT built to date has a LSD.
