Default LSD on 2010, 3.3 gears?

So, I am days away from buying a new mustang GT.

The salesman said the only way to get the LSD is to get the 3.31 (forgot exact number) gears.

This means more rpm's or less rpm's in a gear? I am new to american cars and am getting on the boat as soon as I can.

4.10's, 3.73.........3.3 is the lowest I've heard of and I assume that means the most torque/highest rpm's, but now i'm starting to think I have it backwards...

thanks for any help

Unless I'm going crazy here, I'm pretty sure all GT's come with an LSD.....regardless of what trim you go with. Car salesman knowledge FTW.

Seriously though, if you get a GT....you're getting a LSD out back. Don't listen to idiot salesmen at dealerships. Much of the time they know less about the car you're interested in than you do......especially performance cars.

As far as gear ratios go.........3.31's are going to run less rpm and less torque multiplication than 3.73s. The higher the ratio, the more rpm and more torque multiplication you're going to have. So......bigger gear ratio = much quicker Mustang.

thank you for the replies.

the only way you get the option listed as "LSD" is if you get the 3.31 gears.

all the other options are 'axle option' or whatever for 3.73.

please prove me wrong.

i'm starting to believe you more, but why not list SOMEWHERE that it does in fact have an LSD.

The 3.31 might list it because it's the minimal option and tries to church it up. The 3.73 package would definitely have it but doesn't state that it does.

time to just go test drive more cars and do a ton of donuts.

Perhaps because the "base" is 3.31 and the options (3.55 and 3.73) are for the lower ratio (higher numerically) while retaining the LSD feature of the base?

Don't know why they don't state it but it is definitely an LSD. I've got 3.73's and it's beyond easy to "steer with the rear".

Yes V, I'm pretty sure all GT's come with a LSD. I know for a fact they don't have an open diff......since both tires smoke when you lay into it. And I'm pretty sure they don't put a full locking diff back there either.....or the car would want to do 180's everytime you'd try to throttle through a turn. I think this is something you can take to the bank. Don't let what the catalog says or doesn't say rattle you too much. Just go with the rearend ratio you want most and you're all set.

on the door sticker you can see the gear ratio code:

BG - 3.31 - non-limited slip
CD - 3.55 - limited slip
CG - 3.31 - limited slip

i think only the AT can come with non LSD

i was wrong, non-LSD can be either manual or auto. but LSD 3.31 can only be AT. so the salesman was wrong.

BG — 3.31 — non-limited slip, base vehicle with manual or automatic transmission

CD — 3.55 — limited slip, GT with manual transmission

CG — 3.31 — limited slip, GT with automatic transmission

Never heard of a S197 GT having an open diff (one wheel peel). You sure the stuff you qutoted is for a GT and not the base v6?

Just ask the service dept of the dealership. If they don't know run, don't walk, to another dealership.
