Default Chatter noise on accelleration

I have a 2007 mustang gt with a tune from fastlane in Houston. I am having a chatter sound coming from the intake from 4500-redline. The sounds, sound just like the chatter when the car is about too stall out or starting in 2nd gear at very low rpms. My car did that at the very faintest when i stock. It is noticible but not scary when I accelerate. Is this something I should worry about?

What intake do you have? If it's the JLT then it's fairly common that they hit the hood... sounds like your car does the exact same as mine. If you at your intake and the underside of your hood, you might see some scuff marks on both. It happens because the intake vibrates a little bit under load.

I've been toying with some ways to prevent it, even tried removing and reinstalling the intake. Haven't been able to fix it yet, but I think if I adjust the little bump stop things that the hood rests on it should fix it.

Are you talking about the engine knocking? Which I would describe as the sound of marbles inside a tin can? If so, you may want to take back to the tuner to adjust the tune.

If it's engine knock most tuners (including Brenspeed and Bama) will retard the timing by a degree or two until the knock goes away. If you have to do it more than a few (3-4 degrees) it could be bad gas, fouled plugs, or the wrong octane of fuel.

High heat (like AZ right now) can cause knock even under light loads and even if you have really good gas and tune.

It's probably best to eliminate the simple things first... just check the CAI to make sure everything is snug and it's not hitting the hood any. If you're confident that it's not just rattling, then move to some of the other suggestions here.

Like I mentioned earlier, it sounds from your description that it's the same exact sound I have... at the same times. Mine is just my CAI hitting the hood.

Sounds like pinging! aka knocking aka detonation.

Take it back!
