In the old days that was true. Not any more unless you're talking about extremes (ie Pro Stock power vs Prius MPG).

There's a reason why superchargers and turbos are so popular these days and more and more are getting them factory. Not under boost, the small motor will get good economy. Under boost (pedal to the floor or close to it) and you get power when needed. See? Both.

Ford's EcoBoost is a good example.

13-14 mpg city, 21 hwy.

The mileage got considerably worse as the colder fall weather set in. I think I realized the problem, 160F T-STAT. The engine takes a really long time to reach operating temp in near freezing temperatures, and the mixture is richer when the engine is cold.

I don't think my climate requires the 160F T-stat.

You can have power and good fuel economy, as long as you never use the power.

When I had my JLT and tune I would get around 25 highway with my 3.31s. Now with the Saleen I get around 22 highway, which is a decrease I'm willing to deal with for an additional 200hp.

That being said, my city mileage seems to be down a higher percentage from around 19 to 16 or so. I think because I'm getting on it a bit more than normal, to feel the power. :-0

I would have thought I would get a little better than that, with a slight improvement of volumetric efficiency provided by the blower with conservative driving and 3.55 gears? I can live with it no problem, but I would have thunk better.
