Default CAI Question(To buy or not to buy)

Here goes. I drive mostly highway speeds. Not looking to tear the streets up. Just looking for better mileage. I was going to install a CAI but don't want to spend the money for a tune.(I'm cheap). I saw a Bomz Racing CAI on EBAY. ($99) I don't know if it needs a tune or not. What do you guys think. Trying not to spend alot of money (buying a house and all). Please be gentle with your answers.

I had that same question on my very first v6 mustang and everyone I asked this question to said that its not worth it if u dont want it for performance. They claim you get like 1-2 mpg better, but i have never noticed it, and it would take along time before the gas you save even equals out paying for the cai to begin with. My opinion, its not worth it, but others may have different advice.

If it's not for performance, I would not buy it.
Also... if it is for performance I would NOT buy one without a tune (and tuner) to go with it.

Try a K and N stock air filter replacement.

as said above, if not for per. don't bother, just get the k & n so you don't have to keep on buying a filter, just have to clean the k & n

You'll gain more appreciable hp with the intake/tune combo, without the tune you'll gain minimal if any hp at all. If you wait it out, I am getting rid of my Intake/tuner combo here in a couple weeks when my "new toy" comes in.

.. I'll give you a deal on it.

I've never noticed any improvements in my Gas mileage with my CAI.... I'd just buy the KandN filter, then you don't have to screw around with those stupid paper ones...

Let's see... You're looking to spend HOW much in order to MAYBE gain 1 MPG? CAI's tend to not add any fuel mileage. Typically, you'll lose a little because you'll be putting your foot into it more often, even with the mediocre RWHP gain without a tune.

But let's face it; you didn't buy the car for it's fuel mileage, did you?

There was a thread earlier about this and you talked about hand calculating your gas. You could not be more right my car says I get 20hwy about 16city. Both lies I get about 18-19 hwy and 15 city. And yes I don't even care about mpg.

For the OP Steeda says on their web page that they have seen gains of 38hp with a good tune, don't know how true that is but that is the one I went with.
