Vortech/Paxton power pipe? lol

Anyone see these on Ebay?? they claim to have a gain of 3lbs. of boost, isn't that 60 hp? lol

the arm looks HUGE, doesn't look like it'll even clear the hood.. for $750 it better work!

:D

..great.. more hot air when it gets hot... would work great with an intercooler I bet. The Vortech intake is so damn restrictive looking with the little elbow and bend around the intake.

You might want to read around a little. Bigger pipes like this provide real gains. A Vortech car done at my shop made +60rwhp with a custom-fabbed pipe that looks a lot like that. I'll be doing the same very soon.

The price is laughable, but not the rest.

The size of the intake is what I found humorus... that thing is huge! I am wondering if it actually clears the hood. I know when I did not adjust the intake right the first time around nmy vortech, it would rub under the hood. If it really does make that great of a gain in boost, I'll definelty consider picking one up in the future...

They're 3.5" pipes, and have to clear the ABS module. Plus that picture is taken from a weird angle. Anderson Powerpipes are overpriced, but if you can custom fab one, it's worth your time. I'll post pics and dyno numbers in a week or two, if I remember.

how much power would you say they'll gain with my mods? Thinking about picking one up after I get the Paxton air to air intercooler..

EDIT: Never mind I'm an idiot and didn't read your last post.

It's hard to say given you're getting some cooling and more air.
I'd say 460+ with the proper tune.

holy crap, seriously?!

:D

ah, even with all that power, I don't have an intercooler yet so maybe it's not really a good idea at this point for that much power. On second thought, that extra power sure would be nice.. I only have 3 1/2 months anyways until its starts getting cold and having to put my snow tires back on lol.

Heh yea my original post was basically "Don't do this until you have some cooling" More air = more power = more heat, etc. Plenty of people have blown non-cooled ones under 380 whp.

But yea with cooling, the pipe and a good tune it's definitely doable. A buddy of mine with a water cooled one on a mild tune made 440 something. That was without this power pipe or anything, just the regular paxton and exhaust.

This pipe doesn't make sense. It's supposed to flow better yet INCREASES your boost? WTF!? Unless you do a pulley swap, your boost increasing means you added a restriction and you'll actually be making less power in that case.

Or perhaps they're praying on the ricers who think boost = power.

jahudso2 05-04-2010 07:35 PM

It depends on which side of the blower that the restriction is. A restriction on the outlet of the supercharger increases boost, but decreases flow. A restriction on the intake decreases boost if the outlet pipe stays the same. If this CAI truly has less restriction than the stock box, then boost will increase because it will pull more air into the blower. More air + same pipe diameter = more boost.

If you want to think about it this way, mass flow rate is equal to air density times air velocity times pipe cross sectional area. The cross sectional area and air velocity are fixed at a certain rpm of the blower, therefore more mass flow rate equals more air density which means air pressure or boost.
