Question Did I make a mistake on my Long Tubes?

The place that I am taking my car to on Thursday ordered
BBK longtubes and BBK high flow catted X pipe.

They are also installing
4.10's, Hot Rod Cams, and tuning it.

But I see the price on the Longtubes are 469 which are the price for the chrome headers.

Did I screw up by not telling them to make sure to get ceramic headers?
Are the ceramic THAT MUCH better than the chrome?

Are my chromes gonna heat my engine too much and cause lower power gains?
Are they gonna rust right through in a few years?
Are they gonna last as long as the stock manifold?

No I dont really care what they look like. I just need to know if these are gonna heat up my engine too much and cause me to lose power, or if they are gonna wear really fast and not last as long as my stock manifold.

They have already ordered the product and I NEED the product there
by Thursday because the place is so far away and I already made plans to be there and make a weekend of it.

P.S. anyone know what the stockers are made of?

Info here?

You'll be fine, bro. The stockers are iron, I believe. Ceramic would have been better, but the difference is negligible. In fact, on a N/A engine, the difference between stock and aftermarket exhaust is pretty negligible. Chrome headers will not noticably heat up the engine bay to a degree that would effect performance, and the headers will likely last longer than the rest of the car. I'd look at it this way: You've been saying you plan on installing boost further down the road, so the long tubes are a good investment in your future mods.

performance wise its not going to hurt you any at this stage of the game really unless you need to start squeezing ever possible HP out of the car. But lose 5-10 lbs would be probably about the same diference

What do you mean by that?
I heard that the headers will give me about an increase in the gains from the cams from about 15hp to 30.
Does this mean the chrome headers are'nt going to give me as much of an increase
as the ceramic?

Oh and thx for the info...both of you!

The Chrome/ceramic is just a coating that is on the outside of the header. There is no difference in performance, None what so ever. If you were running a turbo or supercharger the higher engine bay temps may lose you some. But other than that you have nothing to worry about. Chrome headers are not as well insulated as ceramic coated therefore allowing more heat exchange from the headers to the engine bay. On the other side the coating Chrome or Ceramic have been known to peel and chip off anyhow so in the long run you'll have a set of Stainless steel anyways.

^^right you arent losing anything much at all. in extreme cases like mention it just makes the engine bay warmer so you may lose a hp or so after it gets hot. but its nothing that will make or break you. you arent talking 30K engine build and shooting for $$$ at the track

Oh My Gosh.... Gear Heads are the best!

I called them about the ceramic headers.
Turned out he DID order me the ceramics and just quoted me for the chrome!
He said when people do not ask for specifics he always puts what he would put on his own car. He was trying to tell me they were going to only charge me for the chrome ones since they are doing so much work for me and I am friends with some of their customers but I told him NO WAY. I want to be honest and pay them for the good work they are going to do.

These guys have been TOP NOTCH.
I wish I could tell you guys all they have done so far and how much they have helped but it would take me 3 pages and I am too lazy ahaha!
Anyhoot. Three more days till the mods go in!

I AM GETTING SO PUMPED!

I have waited SO long to do some more big boy mods to my car.
I have also taken a LONG time to make up my mind about which way I wanted to go.

It is so exiting to finally be where I know what I want, have the cash, and am finally doing it! Plus I love working with these guys!

I feel like you could give me a friggin elephant tranquilizer right now and it wouldn't
bring me down from my excitement high!

OH... and glad to help put a little excitement into your day!
Your comment about my comments making you excited is making me more excited!
LOL!
