Default called jpc racing for gear install: FAIL

I live in baltimore and i decided that i wanted to pull the trigger on some 3.73 gears. I gave jpc racing a call and they gave me a quote of $880 for parts and labor!!!! so i asked how much of that was labor and they said $550 but then informed me that if I bring my own then that price was going to be even higher . Am i over reacting or is that too high?? Does anyone know of a good shop in the maryland, dc, or virginia area that will do a gear install that won't almost cost me a thousand bucks??

A speed shop quoted me $550 parts and labor. And that included a new bearing kit. Far and away, my biggest concern would be finding somebody who can do this without having the gears whine.

Called the stealership....$1,400 parts and labor! Although, I think that was probably OEM 3.73's and not FRPP's.

In my experience, the stealerships around here are charging 200% of MSRP! And by MSRP I'm going buy what Tousley's website and many others say is MSRP. Its bad enough that I've though about calling reporting them to the attorney general's office for price fixing (there are only 2 ford dealers in the area and they both charge 200% MSRP for parts).

JJ can handle anything you could want to do to your ride. He is also one of the better tuners around.

Just call everywhere you can think of that may install gears. There is such a variance between places it is ridiculous. I am in SC and have a shop here that quoted me a "special" price of $999 parts and install. I went with a mustang shop in GA for 399 out the door parts and labor with no whine and great service. I couldn't imagine why the 600 difference between the two shops. Oh and some dealerships will charge less than others so you can give them a call as well. I have heard of some giving prices around 550-800. Good luck!

Well, if it's done right and everything is replaced, it's going to be expensive. I just had my rear re-done, Richmond 4.10's (top of the line, $199), new clutch packs $107.95, motive master diff kit with Timken bearings $94.95, new FRPPspider gears $109.99. So just the parts came to $511.89. My guy charged me $325 labor to do the work and that also included welding the axle tubes as well.
