DTC P0506...
Hey guys...My parents have a 2006 Expedition with the 5.4. It is the same drive by wire BS that is in the mustangs and other ford vehicles now. It has been running rough, hardly idled, and throws this code if you run it at WOT for a few seconds. I took off the TB and cleaned it, it was nasty with carbon buildup. Seemed to help alot with the idle, idles fine now. Still throwing code though when you put the pedal to the floor to pass someone...and it just dogs and won't accelerate. I have read tons and tons of threads on Ford sites regarding this and the TSB 08-18-2. I have called 2 local dealerships and asked about the issues, neither had a clue about the TSB, and when I asked if the PCM needed programmed when replacing the TB they both said no. However, they also had no clue about the TSB either, so I think they are just missing the boat on this one...
Have any of you had this issue before? I am afraid to spend 3-400$ on a TB, only to replace it and not fix the issue. I also don't want to take it to the stealership for obvious reasons...I know that the TB's are "not serviceable" but I have a degree in Electronics Engineering, and do all my own wrenching, so with those abilities I would certainly think i could fix the thing if I had some information to go off... Could a bad TPS cause this? Or is it the actual drive motor for the throttle blade that fails??
