Default Ported Heads, new heads, or FRRP intake?

Down the road for my final engine uprgrade I was wondering which of these would give better gains and how much in gains I would be looking at.

Also average cost with install.

Not going F.I. and looking to stay about 400 to the wheels and little under
400trq to the wheels.

My clutch handles 420 to the wheels but I want to give it room.

Skip the intake, go for the cylinder heads.

you're not gonna need more than heads to get to 400whp.. but they would be a great addition to your mods list

New heads or ported?
And how much will the total cost look like?

About as much as supercharger kit I would say.. the stock heads flow fine IMO until you really get up high in hp, though if you had deep enough pockets they'd be worth the money wanting to stay as NA.

Pretty much all the 3v heads are ported from stock castings. AFAIK The only ones that are actually new castings are the FRPP heads. I don't think you are going to see 400whp N/A without changing your compression ratio, and with your mods, you are going to loose some serious low end torque. A more aggressive cam might get you close, but again, the low end drivability will suffer.

I opted to have the heads done when I did the cams, and I wish that I hadn't. I lost over 50ft-lbs of torque below 3000rpm and the drivability is not as good as I would like. 5th gear is pretty much useless. I do however, plan on building the motor in the future, so I would eventually have done the heads anyway, but I would suggest waiting until you are ready to build the motor to bother with heads.

Here are my before and after results:

The top end is fantastic. Daily driving not so much.

You can get 400RWHP but you're going to need custom cams, I'd call the cam companies with your combo for best fit or even custom grind a set of long tubes.

Thanks for sharing that info. It's an eye opener.

Maybe with 14:1 pistons and E85. There was a guy on here for a short time who was sponsored and had an n/a 4.6 3v making a little over 400. He had a track only car with 14.5:1 pistons running race fuel.
