Changed my plugs myself. Followed TSB, took my time and had no problems. Noisy during the removal, but that's it.

I want to change my plugs too (36K miles). I was worried that I might break some off so I went to the dealer (or should I say stealership) for a quote. The Service Advisor says $500 to change them and if they all break it could be up to $1200 just to use the removal tool - no mention of head removal. They charge $140 per hour. (I want a mechanic not a doctor!!!). This is at Northstar Ford in Calgary.
So I'll try it myself following the TSB and buy the tool if necessary.
I agree with the post above - Ford charging stupid rates for a design problem. What a business model!
So my advice - get a quote before you just take it to the Stealership!

Brian - if your ride is a DD, I'd suggest having the tool on-hand before you attempt the removal. You don't want your only transportation down while you wait on the tool to arrive should you end up breaking one.

Hi John - no not a DD. I'll take it slow and if any break I can drive down and get the tool. Thanks for the advice though.

@36k you'll be fine. I did mine at 30 and they didnt even squeek.

Just let a little PB blaster soak in, and go slow. I replaced mine with the new SP-514's from ford. I'll be pulling them in the spring when the car comes out again and see how they look.

That's great to hear that you had no prob at 30K. That gives me some reassurance that I won't have a problem either. I am hoping I will be doing this early enough not to break any. I'll be putting in the one piece Champion 7989. There might be better ones...but I'm sure these will be fine.
