Finally fixed my engine whining noise.

After reading all the threads about the alternator being the culprit, and even though the atl bearings felt gritty when turned by hand but the alt was putting out 14.2v. I put one in and no joy.
So today I got some belt idler pulleys and it was the grooved one. It felt better by hand than the alt did, but alas it was the fix. I wish I had went there first and saved the 200 bucks for the new alt.
Oh well, just thought I would share and maybe someone could learn and save 200 bucks.
If you are one of them, send me 100 bucks and you are still ahead!
Live long and prosper.

Can you describe what the whine sound was that you had? I have a whine and am going to get the alternator tested tomorrow and was going after a PA Performance replacement. I dont have any codes being thrown, just the whining sound.
Mine varies in the volume from day to day, but has an electrical sound to it and goes up and down along with the RPM's. It kind of sounds like its coming from the alternator area but cannot be sure. If this is a sound a bad idler pulley makes than I may try that first (unless the alternator tests bad).
