Default 4.10 Auto owners. Have a question.

I have a question about the 5-4 and 4-3 shift points.

I'm running a Bama 93 race tune. Say I'm cruising at 70mph in 5th gear, I then floor it, and the car shifts to 4th, but never to 3rd. The tuner says this is because there's not much mph left in 3rd gear so the computer won't allow the car to shift to third. Of course my acceleration is effected by this. When the car shifts to 4th, its around 3.5k rpm and the acceleration is a lot weaker. My redline is somewhere around 6500rpm which should be able to take 3rd past 80mph, which is what happens when I'm already in 3rd running WOT.

Just curious if any of you have noticed this scenario.

Everything I have read about our auto trans is to avoid those double downshift full throttle runs. It puts way to much strain on the components or something. It might be that bama has programed your trans to avoid this dangerous condition.

Honestly, you're really not gonna have much acceleration in that 60-80mph zone with the 4.10s and NA with an auto. It'll shift once ( going WOT at 60mph til 80), and you'll ride out that gear til top speed. I believe so, don't take my word for it because I haven't been NA for awhile now. The 4.10s weren't all that great on the freeway for speed runs I remember that much. From a dead stop, they were great!

Thanks for the replies. I did some more testing and it does look like 3rd gear is pretty close to being topped out at 70mph.
