Default Hot Rod Cams VS 4.10 Gears

Hey guys, i was wondering what would give me the best gains in performence between the 4.10 gears or the hot rod camshafts. Hot rod sounds great and gains 30hp if you back the timing... The 4.10 gears would end the slugishness of my automatic transmission with the stock 3.31 gears and cut some time off my 0-60... Opinions?? I will buy both eventually but sadly i can only afford one of these two wich will be faster?? Thanks!!

Current Mods: JLT series 3 CAI with 91 octane race tune, O/R x pipe w/high flow cats and pypes bombs cat backs.

If I had to do mods to my 08 GT/auto all over again, it would have to be in this order (CAI/tune being the first mod);

high stall torque converter (3k, multi-disc)
4.10 gears
one piece driveshaft
lower/upper control arms

then cams along with delete plates

12.8@108mph on MT ET Streets or bust! lol

4.10s are awesome.
I'm manual and when I had 3.31s I ran an auto GT with 4.10s (we had the same intake/tune/exhaust mods)...he walked my car. It's the reason I got my gears put in.

Both are awesome but I'd do the gears first then cams.

Cams actually improved my ET over 4.10 gears but, the gears are the better mod. IMO you gotta have gears before you get cams. Gears first, MT et streets next, then cams. Gears also in the auto make DD so much more fun.

The rule for making mods do come with order in a way.
And for good reason to.

1st mod. CAI and tune.
2nd mod. Gears.
3rd is where you have your choices.

I actually got 4.10's, Hot Rod Cams, and long tubes at the same time.

Get the gears first so you wont feel any loss at low end.
Cams are AWESOME though and if you are not going supercharged any time soon I ABSOLUTELY recommend them. They turn your car into a whole different experience for the better. The Hot Rod Cams were my FAVORITE mod in our 06GT!

I certainly agree with the CAI & tune first. Besides, you'll need the tuner to adjust the speedometer for the gears plus the tuner will be needed for most other performance adder mods.

But I disagree with 4.10's over cams. If you think you'll gain 30 RWHP with cams alone, you've been smokin' too much while reading those silly claims. However, cams are a great mod when coupled with headers; they'll gain close to or more than CAI & tune especially with a good tune for them. You can always do gears later but cams are part of some real power-addition modding whereas gears don't add ANY power.

Gears may not add power to the dyno chart but they do drasticly help in the torque curve of the car, which is highly important when getting the car off the line. My vote is Gears over cams. I did 390s & was one of the lucky ones to get no whine from them. But if I had the car to do over I would of put 430s in. Plenty of articles out there where they say 410s are a good choice though for these cars.
