Default My mufflers are way too quiet!!!

I recently had Ford Racing Hot Rod cams installed as well as some Flowmaster 10 series mufflers in my 2010 GT. I wanted it loud but I was afraid it was gonna be too loud. Well, the funny thing is, it is not much louder than stock. I couldn't believe it. So i decided to try some straight through mufflers and installed a set of the Dynomax Race bullets. They are even quieter than the Flows were. I keep reading about how folks throw on an axle back system and it is louder than hell. The only other thing that I can think of would be the cats keeping it quiet. Given that, i have a few questions. Would going to high flow cats help make the exhaust quite a bit louder? If i swapped the cats and installed MIL eliminators, would i pass inspection in Texas. I would like to go to long tubes at some point but probably not until next year. Any recommendations? I have had many fox bodies as well as a 96 Cobra and have not had this problem. Thanks for your help!

typically, louder exhausts are larger diameter piping (3"+), with less bends. resonators and large mufflers quiet it down. eliminate resonators and reduce muffler sizes (or all together) for more volume!

All I have is Mac Boomtube resonators in place of my mufflers and under acceleration it is much louder than a stock GT

Thanks for the reply! I guess what stumps me is that the latest set of mufflers are straight through 12 in race bullets and it is fairly quiet. If i had done that to one of my fox bodies that I've had, it would have been louder than hell. Would you think going to high flow cats would help? I would like a nice and loud exhaust, but I still need to pass emissions testing.

JCON, sounds good! Wish mine was that loud. It is just crazy to me that I can run straight through mufflers and they are so quiet. Under WOT, they sound ok, but at idle, it is not much louder than stock.

Entaille, I just retread your post and you mention resonators. I didn't even realize that I had resonators on my car. If I remove those, that would probably help quite a bit?

headers and X pipe/high flow cats make the car a lot louder, i felt like my stingers were way too quiet till after i installed the headers and stuff, now it sounds really loud.

removing resonators and replacing them with straight pipe will increase loudness, and it will change the tone a little.

I appreciate everyone's comments. I am betting those resonators are the culprits! They are coming off tomorrow); Thanks again! Next up will be a set of long tubes, O/R X pipe, high flow cats);
