Default 4.6 3v rebuild questions....

My father in law has a 06 Shelby gt , 28 k on car, 5 speed stock trans , has a 2.3 h.o. whipple with a 10 rib conversion setup and a completely stock motor. 460 rwhp . well that was fun for 2 years now he's planning to rebuild over the winter. here are the q's-

1. would you add a stroker kit..if so 5.0 or 5.3 ? to this full rebuild.
2. would you run e85
3. hes looking for 800- 900 rwhp - is this engine capable with the right supercharger head and build
4. which whipple head unit will support this
5. should he toss out this idea and buy a crate engine
6. which transmission /clutch to support this
7. which rear end
8. which way / parts would you go to build this engine

any input would be helpful . thanks

Not that I have alot of exp. but this is my idea: (Cost not withstanding)
1. Brenspeed B326 block
2. No
3. Should be, that block is rated to 1000hp
4. No idea, with proper tune maybe the 2.3L will handle it? Thats a question outside my scope
5. Meh. All the crates now are 5.0 Coyotes, N/A is $13-14k just in parts and pieces, 5.0S/C is $27k - you do that math.
6. Tremec Magnum XL 6 Speed (Unless you want AT, that I have no idea) - If you insist on 5 speed maybe one of the TKO 600s; Streetable clutch for that power? Mcloud twin disk, otherwise, w/e is rated for the power level.
7. Whats the purpose? Alot of people here say 3.73 for S/C, others say 4.10, some others compromise at 3.90... Really depends on what you're doing etc.
8. Brenspeed and/or American Muscle - really good cust svc.. really that and any of the sponsors here on MF

Do a B326 (5.3L) with FRPP stage 3 heads. Run E85, if it is easily available, and use ID fuel injectors. Do a return fuel system with triple pumps, check out Lethal Performance. May need a bigger blower, like a 3.4, again check out Lethal, or go Turbo, check out JPC racing. For a Trans, I would run a built PA 4R70W auto. 3.73's should be enough gear, but a differential upgrade would be absolutely necessary with that much torque. Easy 1000 rwhp.

I say dont do anything to the car if its a 06 Shelby GT. They only made 500 of them that year and I believe only 4 of them had five speeds as the rest were autos for hertz rental cars.

It's just an appearance package. In 50 years it may be worth what he paid, but I doubt it.

I would say don't spend anything on it. Sell it for what he can get and buy a newer 5.0. He will be way ahead in the long run. He can buy a newer 11-14 5.0 and put a $4000 Paxton setup on it and not be able to equal that power level without spending big money on the 3v. Any money put into the current car will never be recovered, due to the death of the 3v. All future development is going to the new 5.0. Our 3v is that bastard child of Ford.

If he's going for 800-900 to the wheels, the 4.6 block is perhaps a better option than the 5.0... at least 'til ford figures out how to keep the 5.0 block from cracking. He'd have to have the 5.0 block sleeved in addition all forged internals. I think the 3.4 or 4.0 Whipple unit would be needed. It get's expensive quick. Better than go for the 5.0 would be to go for a GT500, the 5.4 is a better block to make big power.

Thanks for all your input everybody. He's decided to do the 5.3 stroker , boss block , mmr rebuild kit. e85 for fuel . gonna run the 2.3 if it max's out , he will upgrade the blower. Thanks again - ill keep you tuned on his numbers and how it held up.

That 2.3 Whipple will not make 700rwhp at your altitude, if he's planning to make 800+rwhp he's going to need to upgrade to a return style fuel system, ID1000's and a bigger blower, a 3.4l crusher will have no problem making 800,

Good luck with the build.
