Default V6 to V8 speedometer change

my first time posting up a v8 forum!

so i just ordered an 06 v8 complete motor with trans. im about to swap my 4.0 v6 to a 4.6 v8. my friend who is a mechanic and i are gonna swap the engine.

I was wondering for the speedometer do i need to get a gt cluster speedometer?? or could i just stick with this one and get a new odometer picture? sorri idk wat u call it.

also for the motor part of the cluster can i just use these??

http://www.ebay.com/itm/05-FORD-MUST...sories&vxp=mtr

any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Good question. I'm not sure if it's more related to the new PCM you'll need AND the cluster or just the PCM. I'd also try to find out if the SJB needs to be reprogrammed, too.

The programming to keep your speed needle and odometer accurate is in the cluster. I'm not sure if you can find anyone with the proper equipment that is willing to reprogram the instrument cluster... I was able to get Saleen (in the non-steve saleen years) to reprogram mine from the stock GT 140MPH to a 180MPH to match the Parnelli Jones overlay sticker I picked up from ebay.

You could fudge with the rear end gear ratio and tire revs/mile in the pcm to get the speedometer needle close but the odometer would be off.

Or you could go to a junkyard and try to pick out a GT cluster that is close in mileage to you car (on 05-09's the odo is stored on the instrument cluster), or you could order a new one and have Ford pull the mileage off your current cluster and put it on your new one.

Couldn't a dealership correct the readings?

Saleen is still doing it but I heard it was $100.

That's about what it cost me, I had them throw in the needles, so the cost to saleen was $155, round trip shipping was an added cost... and since I wanted the car back on the road I didn't do ground shipping, so that wasn't cheap.
