Default What's behind my rear bumper that's causing this lump?

I have a 2008 GT I bought back in November. The car is in excellent shape with no body damage except for this lump in the middle of the top of the rear bumper panel. There is some scraping like the trunk lid was rubbing although it no longer does. I'm wondering if there is a support bracket or similar that can be repaired without too much trouble. Maybe someone out there knows so I don't have to pull the panel off to troubleshoot?
Sorry for the pics as the black is like taking pictures of a mirror.

It's likely from someone sitting on it. It doesn't take much and the previous owner could have been pudgy.

Probably was hit in the back before and bumper was replaced.
The plastic bracket that runs across underneath is secured in with pop rivets.
You don't line them up properly on re-install and you'll have a bulge...

Previous owner could have been quite the fatty. My previous owner had to be considering my seats felt worn out with only 15k miles.
