Default 2006 Mustang GT Conv seat track extenders

Hi All, newbie here. Just bought a 2006 GT Conv. Not my first stang, had an 89 Gt conv, and an 74 stang II, (ok I know, not really a stang to many). Today i am posting my experience with the seat track extenders. They are supposed to allow the front seat to travel back an additional 3-4 inches. Cost about 54.00 a pair for one seat from a few different sources. I bought them because I am a tall man, and needed a few more inches ,(no double entendre intended), to be comfortable. They consist of a black painted piece of steel bar about 1/4 inch thick, with a stud welded on the back end, and a block with 2 screw holes on the front end, along with holes for the normal seat track mounting to the car bolts and nuts. They also come with some screws and washers, and directions. The directions are fairly simplified, and don't really portray a few of the difficulties of the mod.
Below are the steps to complete the mod.
1, Remove the seat from car.
A, Disable airbag if there, remove fuse, or neg batt cable
allow a few minutes for airbag capacitor to dissapate
B, move seat rearward and remove 2 13mm front bolts
C, move seat forward and remove 2 15mm rear nuts.
D, tilt seat so that you can reach under and disconnect
electrical harness's, 2 on mine, yellow for airbag, and
gray blue for motor.
E, if you are old like me, get a helper and remove seat
from car.
2, Trial fit the extenders to floorpan for fit, which they did
perfectly. Then place old mounting bolts in new
extender and loosely fasten to floor, allowing wiggle
room for seat placement bolt holes to match up.
3, Place seat on bench, cover with flame proof tarp,
cover work area also, and remove front L shaped
mounting brackets,(the toughest part of the job),
by drilling or grinding. I ground the head of the rivet
off and tap out rivet. I preserved the brackets for future
use if desired to restore to original.
4, Place seat back in car and loosely bolt the rear nuts to
studs. Now here is a difficult part, match up the seat
track oblong front hole to one of the holes on the
extender block. I had to play with it a few minutes
with all bolts loose to get it to match up. Once you
finesse it to mesh, place bolts into front extender blocks
5, Tighten all nuts and bolts to about 50 ft lbs. Replace
airbag fuse and batt cable. I had no trouble with codes
or lights from airbag .
6, I was not able to place the rear seat track covers back
but it didn't matter much because the seat covers them
anyway in it's rearmost position.
Conclusions
1, The extenders seem more than strong enough to do the job.
2, The finish on them is gloss black, but somewhat lumpy in appearance.
3, They indeed fit well, albeit you need to finesse them a bit to get the holes to all match up.
The seat now goes back a good 3-4 inches more than it did, and does not hit the side rear panel of my conv, but if you lean the seatback rearward it will hit the rear seat if the seat is at it's rearmost position. For me I actually did not need the farthest rear position of the seat, finding a very comfortable position with an inch to spare. Also the company states that they raise the seat about 3/4 of an inch, which they did, but mine being a power seat, I did not find that an issue at all.
Over all I felt that this mod makes the stang far more comfortable than it was, and therefore worth all the effort.
The one caveat I would caution is that the seat is now not able to go as far forward as it was, due to the placement of the retainer bolts in the front part of the track, and therefore may not be sufficient for a very short person.
Not able to post pics yet, but open to any questions.
Luck to All--Semper Fi--Jack
