Exclamation Broken Axle!?!

So I took a corner a little fast lost control, spun out and smacked into a curb. The force of the impact snapped the axle and rotor completely off the car and some how my caliper still works. The problem is I have no clue how to get the broken shaft out of the axle housing. Any ideas?

Need to drop the rear cover, these Mustangs have C-Clips to secure the axle shaft.

Yeah, you've got to remove the diff cover and pull the c-clip. then you can push it out from the inside.

Don't hit curbs!

That must of been a hard hit, but like others mentioned pulling that axle out would be the same as pulling a good one out. Remove the diff cover draining the fluid, the 8.8 diffs use a lock shaft, its held in place by a small 8mm headed bolt, remove this bolt and spin the diff untill it falls down, the S clip will keep the spider gears in place. One the shaft drops down simply push in on the axle so the inside end and c-clip is expose. Remove the c-clip then the axle will slide right out. I would replace atleast the axle seal on the side while its appart, even the outer housing bearing if you have a puller.

The housing looks good but my panhard bar, sway bar, axle seal and bearing are done for. I hit it at about 30-35 mph, I just cant believe it took the whole axle out. So once I pull the c-clip I can just push the axle out from the inside?

Yea it will slide out. Make sure the lock shaft as c clip dodnt get damaged from the jar either.

IMO, if you did that much damage to the rear end... maybe look at a whole replacement axle from newtakeoff.com or similar site. In the long run might save you a bunch of time for about the same amount of cash as parting the whole thing back together.

JD's right.
Dump the whole thing.
Maybe get a NewTakeOff with different gears...?
