Default P0443 + Cold Weather

Yesterday I was driving in fairly cold weather ~40F and my engine cut off completely. After the incident it threw a P0443 error (EVAP purge/vent solenoid circuit condition). A few things that I have noticed:
  • When I turn on the A/C compressor the engine cuts off instantly
  • When I turn on the headlights the engine cuts off instantly
  • Starts up with little effort - new battery and new alternator - feels strong
Otherwise the car does not seem to be struggling engine-wise.

I know about tightening the gas cap but I have not seen a thread with similar symptoms to my own. If anyone has any other advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Best

The Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) canister purge volume control solenoid valve uses a ON/OFF duty to control the flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve is moved by ON/OFF pulses from the ECM. The longer the ON pulse, the greater the amount of fuel vapor that will flow through the valve.

Sounds like the solenoid which is near the gas tank is the issue. It's not creating enough pressure to feed your car. The link between running an accessory and/or headlights seem odd unless your alternator is going. The solenoid is an electrical component. What voltage is your battery when the car is off? What is it when the car is on? Voltage when on and AC is turned on? Voltage when car is on and headlights are turned on? It could also be a short in the wire but I doubt it.

Thanks JCON,

I'll look into the voltage thing tomorrow. I'll be heading to the local Ford dealership bright and early in the morning.

I replaced the stock intake and before engine was running great but was cracked. Next day in 30 deree weather it will crank great but refuses to start unless a shot of ether and then winds up until it finally catches on. when it does it will start fine and runs great. Checked for vaccum leaks ,new plugs and wires. new evap relay valve. fuel pressure 32 idle., 42 idle vacc regulator off and plugged.
ran purrrrrfit before...Only auto and need help if possible...
