Default What gears do I need?

I just purchased an 05 GT, Comp cams, long tube headers, air intake, SCT tuned and lowered 1.5". The guy I bought it from said that it needed gears.

Do I need to buy gears? If, so which ones like 3.73 or 4.10?

Really kind of new to all this trying to learn and obtain information.

The car is my daily driver as well.

thank you

Jesse D.

You shouldn't have to buy/install new gears, unless there is damage or you want to upgrade.

Ours mustangs r pretty similar dude. I would get 4.10. And do some royal purple gear oil. I just put that oil in mine, super smooth and quiet with some FR friction modifier.

if I read well, your car is a daily driver / 5 speed / 340ish hp.

if you cruise at 70, 3.73 is ideal
if you cruise at 60, 3.90 would be better

4.10 I would only recommend if you do mainly city driving. it's going to be 3k rpms at 80

4.10s on highway are just fine. 2500 RPM or so around 70MPH....no different than your average Honda, just ALOT more sexy exhaust noise.

Edit: Going from 3.31 to 4.10 upped my MPG due to much less downshifting around town and zero downshifting on the highway to pass.

The change between those two ratios are almost not enough to notice when in fifth gear, also ford racing does not make a 3.90, motive does and are known to be a lil louder with gear whine, just something to think about

agreed on the facts.
it's maybe more of a personal preference to cruise closer to 2k rpms then.

and yes, mpgs would change according to your driving style.
I drive 50/50 highway(80mph) / city and noticed that the mpgs have decreased a little bit (10%).

if you cruise at 70mph or a little more city than I do, you would probably not notice a difference in the mpgs.

I put RP in mine and it got louder (no whine previously, have whine now. All shims and spacing is correct).

I have 4.10's in mine and I drive 40% city and 60% highway and I do not regret one bit having 4.10. As long as you don't have a supercharger or turbos, get 4.10's and don't be scared. They're awesome!

Either you don't or I don't...

With his mods, he's putting down about 310 RWHP; 320 at best.

Depends if is a daily driver? 3.73 is a great gear for street/strip.
