Wow. If I'd have known that I'd have bought stock in Mobil.

My current tow vehicle see's (and 2 previous tow vehicles saw) boat towing duty every weekend and I use M1 in it changed at 10k mile frequencies. Those 2 previous tow vehicles were sold with 215k miles and 152k miles and ran like tops. Unless you're running track or motor-X, 3k miles on full syn is a...sin. But, it's your money to waste. I don't even change the Motorcraft blend before 5k miles minimum.

I run Pennzoil Ultra to 5K miles and feel like I'm probably wasting money.

...sure beats changing it at 3k miles. If I changed a full syn at 3k miles, my father would rise from the grave and slap me stupid.

I use M1 Full Syn on average every 6-7k miles or so, with the M1 extended performance filters... I also check my oil weekly and pay attention to the coloring, etc.... But that's just me

Does it stay between the lines?

Oil color is not an indicator of whether an oil's protective packages have been depleted. Quite often, an oil can be black but still test fine for an additional 10k-15k miles or more. I, too, thought dark oil meant "bad" oil. But after oil analysis technique training required by a previous job, I learned better.

Oil companies make more money if they convince you that you need to change the oil more frequently. And "We the Sheeple" tend to follow them blindly.

Touche.

I've read all the stuff here and other places that say it's fine, but generally, I'm not even considering changing until 6-7k anyway. Yes it stays between the lines lol. Typically I use the darker oil to determine if I do it at 6 or 7k... Makes me feel good even though with today's modern oils it's not a real issue anymore

I change my oil once a year. However, I rarely put more than 2,000 miles on the car each year. I make the oil change part of the "put away for winter" ritual. Full sythetic, with a Bosch or Mann filter.

I don't track my car, here and there i'll go do some 1/4 mile runs at a local race track. But it's not a lot of money to do an oil change, especially since i'm not paying someone to do it for me. Walmart sells a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 Full Synthetic for $24.99 so I just go there and pickup a jug with an oem filter. Every 3,000 miles which is about 2 months costing me $35 isn't really that much on the wallet. I'm pretty OCD with my car, had to work four jobs to save up a nice down payment to make it affordable with one job, so I take care of my hard work..

Oil change every 3,000 miles / 3months
Brake & Clutch Bleeding every 10,000 miles
Transmission and Rear Axle every 10,000 miles
Power Steering every 20,000 miles
Coolant every 40,000 miles
Spark Plugs every 30,000 miles /

I know its pretty soon on all of them, but I just love taking care of my car and keeping it clean. I'm only 18 so I do all of this on my own so it saves me money.
