The chances of a recall at this point are pretty slim, it's almost a 10 year old car. There have been some reports of TPS-related issues on the early build cars. There is a "round end" and a "square end" version of the TPS best I remember. One is good, the other is not, but I don't remember which is which.

7+ years on the forum and the # of OE TB problems has been incredibly small, especially compared to the alternator problems and there was no recall there or even a TSB. Nor for the 05 thru early 06 gauge issues... nor for the 05 and 06 Slacker 500 battery drain issue...

Had anyone one cleaned the throttle body before and forced the plates open to clean it? I often wonder if that may cause problems.

When I clean my TB, I just open the plates as far as they'll open under light pressure. I found on mine there's just enough clearance to get a small brush into opening to clean with TB cleaner. I've got 55k on mine with no problems yet and 2 TB cleanings at least.

They are easily removed for cleaning as well

I'd get a new mechanic.

Maybe it is my area of the world that causes more problems, I don't know. [winter -cold- etc] In any event, mechanic read the codes, we installed a new throttle body and problem went away.

Considering the dozen + TSB's on the S197 since inception from '05 AND the fact that most of those TSB's are related to more/other serious issues (take the TSB for the chronic water leak which eventually destroys the SJB for instance) AND the fact that Ford didn't do any recalls for those, there's no way Ford would do a recall for a not-very-frequent TB problem. Even the OE alternators and/or batteries which probably 30% of the forum has had high mortality rates with never even made Ford blink.

Nothing really wrong with the TB itself. Earlier S197's had TPS issues but not all of them and they did redesign it in 2007?

Really 'cause I worked at a Ford dealer and had no issues with throttle bodies. I think the tech is talking out his *** because he has no clue and he's to stupid to use a computer.
