There are all sorts of maintenance offends that need to be done to these cars.

If you do not have a tune on your car, you would have CELs popping up with those mods.

If it was me, I would clean the throttle body, service the transmission, make sure it has a good fuel filter and go from there.

The only service I've done is oil and filter change. No CELs. As far as I know the original owner probably reset tune to factory and kept tuner. I've not been able to get any contact info for original owner to find out. Looking at doing spark plugs .Don't know if they have ever been replaced. Studying all information on spark plug tools and procedures to keep from breaking them off. My acceleration problem could be with the mods it has and only having factory tune. Transmission actually shifts fine. It seems that the engine doesn't have any low end power. You have to press accelerator down far enough to make it down shift, then when rpm gets up above 3000 its fine. It my be the nature of the car or like I'm thinking the tune. My 2001 is pretty much stock except tuner and coils and I can push down on it and it pulls hard without having to make it down shift to gain speed. Like its got more low end torque than the 2005.

I would start with basics. Change spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter.

That motor should have plenty of kick to it.

IME, with the mods the OP has, he would have a CEL without the tune. Could be wrong as I don't know about the Ford racing CAI.

And if you do not know about the maintenance with the tranny ore anything else, take care of it.

I thought I had an engine problem on my 01. It surged and wouldn't shift up or down correctly. A transmission fluid change cured it.

My '05 has the Superchips premium fuel tune. In 'drive' it's fine but when you shift it manually the throttle is WAY too sensitive. Knowing this was one of the first tunes written for the S197 I'm sure there are newer and better tunes available. Money IS an issue at the moment unfortunately.
