Default 2005 GT with different engine...

is there any way I can find out what year or version 4.6 rebuilt/replaced engine is in a 2005 Mustang GT???

I know the 4.6 was used in many Ford products and the GT I am looking at supposedly had the engine rebuilt or replaced...the current owner cannot locate paperwork and is not helpful in this much...

I'd like to know the year and model this engine came from should it be different than the one that was originally in the 2005 Mustang GT...

Thanks for any help or insight you care to share...

Bill

The block should have serial number stamped on it. An online search or dealer can probably fill you in on the engine details based on the serial

Well, the 2005 Mustang GT is now mine...the sticker on the replacement engine has the following if anyone has any insight into deciphering it...

5S 690 AA 001
E150 260504 005801
4.6L-V8 26/05/04
Essex Engine Plant, Windsor, Ontario

I'm thinking the first two rows are the type and build number
third row is 4.6 liter V8 not sure what the 26/05/04 mean
last row is the plant it was made at

stab in the dark here.

line 1=Ford part#
line 2=Ford vin# and build date (05/26/04 or 04/26/05) and # off assembly line (yours is the 5,801 engine built in that run or since 01/01 of corresponding year)
line 3=Ford dealer info on engine
line 4=self explanatory.

soooo, if the original was replaced with this engine then its the correct engine for your car. what makes you think this is a replacement engine? the car build date will be on the door sticker as well and has other useful info- trans, rear axle ratio, interior/exterior color codes etc. good luck

thanks bl817...I know the original owner...he had the OE engine replaced after a failure around 60 something miles...the OE engine was replaced with this one (not rebuilt) that was supposed to be from a 6K mile vehicle but the paperwork is gone and so I don't have a way to get much information about this replacement...
