Default Need help transmission 4.6 L 5 speed

I recently brought my 2006 mustang GT 4.6 with a 5 speed manual transmission to a mechanic because second gear would grind figured it was the sync rows after it sitting there for a month he said that he could not get the transmission apart because of shavings does that make sense

You are in the wrong section. This isn't for questions related to your specific Mustang. It is for:
Forum Issues and Feedback Discuss any issues you are having with using Mustang Forums here.
You post about your specific Mustang in the section for your year - i.e. you would post in the S197 section

Moved to tech.

Not sure how shavings would prevent opening the transmission cover and removing stuff because I doubt shavings would be an adhesive to make parts/gears stick.

Devon, IMP and 99GTvert are right on the money. Don't put any money into one of the biggest pieces of crap to come down the pike. If you aren't putting more than 400 horses to the rear wheels, the most economical way out is Ford's Heavy Duty T5Z, part # M-7003-Z, $1,750.00. If you either have more ponies, or plan on having more ponies, I would suggest the Tremec TKO 500. The OEM T5 is noted for the issue you stated and getting it into third gear on a good "power shift" will give you nightmares. Don't get me wrong, if the OEM T5 is properly updated it will suffice as long as you don't horse it around.

The OEM manual tranny in an '06 GT is the TR3650 and no, it isn't a big piece of crap. It'll handle 400rwhp just fine but anyone wanting to upgrade could either go for the Magnum XL T56, or the TR6060 from the GT500.

Dino, My mistake. I am so focused on the OEM t5 I forgot about the 3650. This was a great 5 speed, and I apologize to everyone on this blog for my oversight.

No worries. In any event, if the OP does need a replacement tranny, he could opt for one of the upgrades I've mentioned, especially if he's considering the idea of boosting his engine later on.

Dino, those are great trannies. That Magnum XL T56 is outstanding. Presently I am taking a strong look at the Tremec TKO-500, 5 speed. What are your thoughts on this tranny??? It is rated at 500 lb-ft of torque. This is more than ample for my 331 stroker on the 200 hit of nitrous. After I blow this engine, I am planning on building a 363 stroker on a 300 hit of nitrous. Then I will be looking at the Magnum XL.

The TKO 500 is another great tranny if you prefer five ratios rather than six.
