Tail Light Wire Signals

Tail Light Wire Signals
Maybe I'm not reading the wiring diagrams correctly but I cannot figure out exactly what signals are sent to the tail lights. I'm working on making a simple pic micro controller circuit to use for sequential lights in order to get practice with embedded systems and to avoid spending $120. I'm planning to use a low power pic and using the light signals as my inputs. More inputs just means more possible customization.
It looks like there are multiple signal types being passed (brake, turn, etc) but I don't understand which they are.
Has anybody figured this out so far and what are each if so. I assume there is at least a brake and ground, maybe turn and lock signals as well.
I'm being a bit lazy asking here to avoid going out with my multi meter and testing each wire which I'll need to do if I can't find this out otherwise.
Thank you in advance for any assistance

$120? Then buy them used for $65...
Plus, you asking for assistance, yet we have no idea what YEAR you want help
with.
You're putting too much thought into it. Brake, they will sequence and stop once all three
are lit. Blinking, is what keeps the sequence going. The center tail hi-filament is the
trigger wire. That will initiate the sequence from the inner light, to the outer light. When
it blinks with the signal, the sequence just repeats. When braking, you get one sequence.
