Why are my brakes weak?
hi guys. I just had a quick question for ya. I have an 06 gt and the brakes are stock. Even with new pads they seem kinda weak. There’s plenty of fluid, and I bled the lines. Everything is working as it should. They feel weak as in I need to upgrade them. So my question is: are the calipers just not that great? Or maybe I need new lines? Perhaps a stronger master cylinder?
thanks. I appreciate it.

My brakes don’t feel different from before. They feel the same as they always have. I have just decided that they aren’t good enough anymore and want to upgrade. Essentially I am asking if i just need stronger calipers and maybe rotors or if I may also need new lines and/or a master cylinder. Or maybe the master cylinder just needs to be upgraded. The calipers are two piston I believe.
I’m sorry if I didn’t explain that well. All in all I am asking what the best upgrade for the brakes would be while keeping most of the system generally stock

So I noticed this as well with my car which is an 2007gt. I have always felt like the brakes were a bit mushy. I did Stainless Steel lines, pads, fluid flush and rotors a long time ago. I still didn't think they were much better. So I installed this https://lmr.com/item/LRS-2120AK/Must...rade-Kit-05-14 and ordered different wheels and tires. Much better braking. This was the cheapest i could find this brake kit.

Mine are a little mushy, but if I brake, release and apply real fast, they stiffen up.
I may put a new master on this summer, to see if that firms them up a little.
I flushed the system when I bought it.
You can use S550 front brakes with changing the caliper lines, and two washers as spacers
between the bracket and knuckle. I have a write-up here on it.

Okay. So replacing the calipers and rosters really is what would need to be done.
The gt500 setup would be nice. But dang those are expensive. I mean, mine is just a street car. I may look into trying to get some performance pack stuff or maybe a little cheaper option. But that answers my question. Thank you

mine were crap when I bought my 2010. I found out later the rear brake calipers has a frozen slider pin on each side, so...no rear brakes only fronts.
Put new calipers on the rear and the braking feel got much better. Keep in mind the parking brake only works the rears so if they're stuck, calipers may not close all the way.
Easy check is to take off rear wheels, and see if you can loose the slider pin bolts (10mm I believe) loosen some and see if upper portion of caliper slides easily. Also a good idea to put some caliper grease on those pins.
You might also do a complete brake flush at a local shop, your fluid may have some water in it.. brake fluid soaks up h20 out of the air.
Good luck!
