Default New to Manual trans Clutch question.

I've got a 87 coupe 4 cyl with a manual trans and I had my uncle check the car out and teach me how to drive it. Well he drove around to show me the basics and he said I did really good for being new at it and I didn't grind the gears. I went to reverse out of my driveway yesterday and when I pushed the clutch in it went to the floor without resistance, So is it that my clutch cable broke or is it the clutch itself? I have not had any problems with it other than this. Any help would be great because my uncle is out of town and I don't have anyone to help me out.

I can move the shifter into different gears when the car is off if thats what you mean. I have not tried to start it since it happened.

Since it seemed to happen over night, the cable has probably gone bad. When you pushed in on the pedal did it pop, make any noise, or seem to catch first before it let go? The clutch cable should be adjustable, pull up on the pedal to see if the mechanism will catch. Another thing to check would be the clutch linkage cable. It is about 2"-3" and is cheap and easier to fix than the clutch cable itself.

Where exactly would the clutch linkage cable be located at? Also is that what is also called a dog bone or bar bell cable?

Yes, that is the cable. Glad to hear that you figured it out!
